Inspiration is a truly beautiful thing. And so fleeting. It would be so great to wake up every morning and be inspired. Inspired to live. Inspired to change the world. Inspired to write.
How do I make sure the inspiration is there every day when I need it? Why does it seem the most fleeting when I am grasping for it the most?
I am truly inspired by many things. Sometimes small things, like a thought or a word or a television show, inspire me. Out of the blue, it comes to me and I am ready to write. Other times, inspiration floods through me like a wave of emotion. This is usually caused by emotion inside of me. I am a very emotional writer. I do some of my best writing when I am really feeling something on the inside. But most of the time, I am blank.
I think inspriration, and the creative process in general, is tamped down inside of me by the things I do every day. Going to work and staring at a computer screen for eight hours a day does a lot to kill the creativity inside of me. Sitting in traffic. Running errands. Paying bills. Fighting fatigue. The monotony of day to day life. I feel blank inside by the time I get home and get ready to pull out the pen. There's nothing left to give inside of there.
So, the solution is to find sources of inspiration that I can draw from whenever I need to. Come out wherever you are. I know you're out there.
