It was a dark and stormy night. The rain had been steady all night, painting the road in front of me black. My car broke down along Highway 39, between the milepost 7 and 8. I hadn't passed another car for at least an hour. I now knew it was a mistake to leave my cell phone behind. I had wanted to be unreachable. Now I was out of touch.

As I pulled over onto the shoulder of the Highway, the clouds parted and the moon suddenly appeared. I had to blink a few times as my eyes adjusted to the new source of light. I suddenly felt grateful for the steady stream of moonlight flooding through my front windshield. The moon was full and bright, bathing the surrounding fields with a dim light that grew stronger as the clouds broke up and drifted apart.

Where exactly am I? I'd been driving for three days with little sleep. Escaping. I just couldn't stay any longer.
